The Friends of St Cuthbert Mayne
Who are we and what do we do?
The Friends of St. Cuthbert Mayne is a group of parents working together to organise events and activities to provide additional funds for the school.which raise money for the benefit of our children.
The Friends are an integal part of school life and meet several times a term to discuss ideas and plan events. It is a great way to meet people as well as having your say on how funds can be raised and spent.
Last year, 2007/08, the Friends raised in excess of £12,500 and the funds were allocated to a number of great initiatives including:
- The new school library
- Curtains for the main hall
- A shed to store playground equipment and games

Insurance/Ink
Cartridges
Did
you know that you can also renew your insurance through
Spend and Give too? When your insurance is up for
renewal, and your quote has come through from your current
provider, all you need to do is email Paul Thomas –
who manages the Spend and Give site, on: pault@jackatheart.co.uk
(the link is at the bottom of the page on the Spend and
Give site), give him some details and he will find you a
lower insurance quote whilst earning commission for the
school – between £12.50 and £35 per transaction.
If
you use ink cartridges, you can also buy them at a great
price and earn the school commission – between 2.5
and 8.75% commission. Again all you need to
do is email Paul using the link at the bottom of the
Spend and Give page
and give him the details of the type of cartridges which
you need, i.e. colour, printer make, model, recycled, compatible
etc, and he will do the hard work for you.
Mobile
Phones
Each
year over 100 million mobile phones are thrown away in Europe;
in many cases they are left lying around in drawers gathering
dust!
Envirofone
are a company which recycles used mobile phones, batteries
and chargers, sending some for resale or reuse in growing
economies around the world and others for recycling.
When sent for recycling, every element of the old phone
is reused in industry.
Do
you have any old or unused mobile phones and chargers?
If
the answer to the above question is YES, and you are willing
to donate it/them to the school, we can send them off and
the school will receive funds from Envirofone to the value
of the phones received – phones can vary from being
virtually worthless to being worth £100.
If
you want to donate any to the school, please could you hand
them in to the school office in a sealed/closed plastic
bag and include, if you have them, the phone charger, the
manual, the battery (within the phone) and the phone WITH
THE SIM CARD REMOVED. Please note, if the sim cards
are not removed, Envirofone destroy them upon receipt but
it is much safer if you remove them in the first instance.
Please could you also label the bag for the attention of
Gilly Staley.
